D1's Will Bartholomew Talks Youth Sports, Performance Training On Pure Athlete Podcast

D1 founder and CEO Will Bartholomew appears on the most recent episode of The Pure Athlete Podcast.

Pure Athlete is a youth sports platform with a weekly podcast that's featured high profile guests such as Chipper Jones, Dabo Swinney, Kirk Herbstreit and Mallory Pugh Swanson.

D1 Training and Pure Athlete recently joined forces to strengthen support for families and their young athletes. Bartholomew gives micro-lessons on aspects of youth performance training on PA+, Pure Athlete's subscription tier.

Throughout the podcast, Bartholomew and hosts Britt Lee and Brad Williams discuss:

Bartholomew's Athletic Journey at the University of Tennessee

Bartholomew played fullback at Tennessee, including on a team quarterbacked by Peyton Manning.

"Peyton was the guy because of the way he carried himself and went about his work ethic. When I saw that, I was like "that's what I want to be.' That was such a good example for me."

The Inspiration Behind D1 Training

"I went to the University of Tennessee, and we had an amazing strength staff there. This guy would get you thinking you could do whatever," he said. "I found my home in the weight room and on that turf. I wanted to recreate that for middle school and high school kids."

How He Trained His Own Kids

Bartholomew's daughter Nolyn played collegiate soccer at Tennessee while his son Ty is a junior linebacker at Vanderbilt.

"My goals for my kids are to make sure they have goals. What I'm in control of is coaching them that having goals and having a great belief system to get to those goals and building habits is going to serve you the rest of your life."

D1's Mission of Helping Athletes Set Goals

"We're in it to inspire and motivate athletes to reach their goals. Kids are thinking about the stars. That's the last thing you should focus on. My beliefs system is bigger than that. You should focus on yourself and what are doing today to get better."

How Often A High School Athlete Should Be Training

"A high school athlete should be training with weights two times a week in season. Out of season, four times a week. But different sports should have different demands. Different positions too. A punter is going to have a different workout than an offensive lineman."

How D1 Helps Athletes Reach that Next Level

"When these athletes come in, it's not about where you're at. It's about where you're going to be. You're going to be stronger. You're going to be faster. You're going to be more accountable."

The episode is available in podcast form on Spotify and Apple and will soon be available on YouTube.
